"دم العصافير" قصص قصيرة للكاتب الدكتور لؤي علي خليل تقول شهادتها على مرحلة الحرب السورية الراهنة وتتتبع أثرها على الأطفال. تحكي فصولها عن تجربة القتل اليومي، وتعيش شخصياتها على إيقاع الخوف والفقدان، وتسافر وقائعها في التاريخ الوحشي للسلطة القائمة ورموزها العسكرية، وتشهد أحداثها على تفاصيل صادمة - حقيقية، لا بل جهنمية عن شهوة القتل، وفنون التعذيب، والعنف المنظم، لا خيار فيها للإنسان السوري سوى خيار الثورة.
يبدأ العمل بتنويه من الكاتب مقصود: "الشخصيات الواردة في نصوص الكتاب شخصيات واقعية من لحم ودم، وأي تشابه بين أحداث النصوص والواقع هو تشابه مقصود". من هنا يُمكن اعتبار العمل برمته صرخة مدوية في وجه العالم أجمع تقول: من يحمي الطفولة؟
في القصة التي يفتتح بها الكاتب عمله "الجريدة الرسمية" نقع على مشهد فتى لا يزيد عمره على خمسة عشر عاماً، يتلقى الضربات على رأسه لمجرد أنه هتف للحرية، فما كان من الجنود إلا أن أجبروه على أكل "الجريدة الرسمية" لكي يهتف للقائد بدلاً من الحرية. هذا مشهد من عديد مشاهد يتعرض لها الأطفال في سورية أقلها التعذيب والجوع والبرد والتشريد، استطاع الكاتب تجسيدها بنوع من المصداقية الصورية للسرد، الذي يسعى إلى إكساب تلك العلاقة بين المجرم والضحية مغزىً محلياً بالغ التعقيد يتغلغل في البناء التخييلي داخل زوايا معتمة من الأحاسيس والسلوكات البشرية، بحيث يكاد يتحول التعرف القصصي عليها نموذجاً للكشف عن السلوك التسلطي غير المبرر بين القوي والضعيف، وبالتأكيد الأطفال هم الحلقة الأضعف في الحرب الدائرة.
يضم الكتاب أربعة عشر قصة قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "الجريدة الرسمية"، "غبرة تراب"، "سواسية"، "الرأس"، "حرية وبطاطا"، "سيعود كل شيء كما كان"، "ألعاب الأطفال"، (...) وقصص أخرى.
