"خبز... ودم" مجموعة قصصية للكاتب محمّد السيّد، هي في مادتها تمثلات مثقف عربي لذاكرة الماضي ومشهد الحاضر، وأسئلته بإزاء الوطن والثقافة والوعي الجماعي وحدوسه بصدد الكتابة والعلاقة مع السلطة، كُتبت بنبرة نقدية تؤكد صدامية الأدب، وإنحيازه الدائم لفعل الثورة على الأوضاع السائدة، وتدريجياً سوف يتصور القارئ سرديات العنف ومجمل الفظائع والفجائع الإنسانية التي عاشها الشعب السوري منذ ثمانينات القرن المنصرم وإلى الآن، بما فيها ملاحقة المعارضين، والمنتمين إلى الأحزاب الدينية والسياسية، وهي شهادات حيّة عن شبان اختطفوا، وكان مصيرهم السجون، مروراً بمتاهات الدم والشهداء؛ في سياق تحولات مجتمعية وسياسية، انبثقت من تناقضات داخلية، وأسست، منذ البداية، لمسار العنف المتواتر، الذي أضحى قدر السوريون منذ أكثر من أربعين عام وحتى كتابة هذه السطور.
في القصة المعنونة "خبز ودم" يكتب محمّد السيّد عن حمص وأحداث باب عمرو ويسلط الضوء على الشوارع الخالية، والمنازل المتهدمة جراء القصف العشوائي من جيش السلطة للمدينة، ويرصد حركة ذلك الأب الذي خرج من بيته، مخلفاً وراءه صغاراً مع أمهاتهم، بإتجاه فرن البلدة وما إن عاد وفتح الباب، حتى اختلطت الدماء بالخبز... وكان آخر علمه وهو حيّ، أن تحسس الأرغفة، فإذا هي غارقة بدمه، فنظر نظرة أخيرة إلى البيت الذي آواه أربعين سنة عجفاء صفراء، مدعية الإستقرار، فإذا بالمنزل قد أصبح قبراً لساكنة...".
هذا، وقد أشار المؤلف في كتابه إلى أن قصص مجموعة "قد نشرت من قبل في بعض المواقع وفي مجلات المجتمع وغيرها، منها ما هو مكتب قبل الثورة المباركة ومنها ما هو مستوحى من أحداث الثورة وكلها واقعية".
