بقدر ما يشكل العنوان «في بلدةٍ صينيةٍ قديمة: قصص واقعية وتأملات لسعودي عاش ردحاً من الزمن في الصين» عتبة للمرور بقدر ما يكون حاملاً للنص وحالة من يكتب. والقاص عبد العزيز الشعباني يلعب هنا ضمن متوالية المكان والحدث والموقف لتصوير الاختلاف بين الشعوب إثر سنوات عاشها في الصين وأراد مشاركة القارئ تجربته فيها. وهي قصص يمكن أن نصنفها ضمن النصوص التشاركية، لأنها وصف لسلسلة من الأحداث التي وقعت على مستوى الواقع. وبالتالي تُمكن من القبض على المتعة الفنية العميقة بفعل نموذج القراءة المشاركة والخلاقة، كما أن ظاهرة الوصف للأماكن والشخوص الذي تتميز به، على مستوى تسلسل الحكايا، وعلى مستوى التوليف النصي والحواري حوّل بعض القصص إلى قيمة مشهدية معبرة عن حضارة الصين وعراقة شعبها.. أو أنها قصة بحث عن قيم أصيلة في عالم ممتد. ولأن خير من يعبر عن كتابه المؤلف، قدم القاص عبد العزيز الشعباني لكتابه بمقدمة يقول فيها: "ليست مجرد قصص يومية، أو حكايات عايشتها، بل هي أشبه ما تكون باكتشاف عالمٍ آخر، أو بالأحرى.. ككوكبٍ يحمل على أرضه شعب له سيماه المختلفة وطبائعه الغريبة بالنسبة إلي وإلى أي غريب يأتي من خارج الحدود. هي أشبه ما تكون بجلسةٍ طويلة للمقارنة بين ثقافاتٍ أعرفها، وثقافةٍ جديدة – بكل تفاصيلها – كُتب عليّ بأن أعايشها. أن تتعايش مع إنسانٍ في وطنه وعلى أرضه يختلف تماماً عن أن تعايشه في مكان آخر لا ينتمي هو إليه، فالطباع ستختلف، والعادات اليومية ستتغير، ولن يبقى سوى ما جمعته العولمة من ثقافاتٍ مشتركة وعواطف شائعة لتجمع بينكما. كل يومٍ يمرّ ويصدف أن ألتقي فيه بشخصٍ جديد من أهل البلد، فلا بد أن يترك لديّ انطباعاً جديداً، جميلاً أو بعكسه، انطباعاً عن شيء ما. فأهل البلد ليسوا متشابهين تماماً، والاختلاف بينهم ليس بكبير، ولكن النظرة إلى شخص غريب تكاد تكون متقاربة في الاستيعاب، متفاوتة في التعامل، خصوصاً لدى من هم في مستوىً "بسيط" من التعليم والثقافة والمعيشة. وعلى عكس ما يأتيني من تساؤلات وتعليقات وظنونٍ من خارج حدود بلادهم.. فإن ذلك الإنسان الجديد على حياتي.. تغلب عليه الحميمية".
