- من عوالم القصة المعنونة "لثامٌ وعينان سوداوان" نقرأ: "لأول مرةٍ أظهر بنصفِ أو ربعِ وجه، أغلبُ وجهي بلا معالم، ظهرت عيناي أكبر، دائرةُ وجهي البيضاء كانت تخفي دوائر عينيّ البيضاء والسوداء، عندما هممتُ بدخول البيت أردتُ أن أقرأ الوجوه الأخرى من خلف اللثام الأسود، اقتربتُ من الجدار لأقرأ سطور الأسمنت التي تختفي خلف الدهان الرمادي، وجدتُ اللون الرمادي فاتنًا، الوقوفُ الطويل أشعرني بالمتعة وأنا أتأمل سماكة السور وروعته، لم أكن أهتم كثيراً بمعرفة ما يدور في ثنايا هذا الجدار؛ فمنذ أن بنيناه لم أعد مكترثًا بصامتٍ يقف بلا حياة؛ باستثناء دقات نادرة على بوابته الحديدية التي لم يعد أحد يهتم بفعلها للاستئذان، تجاوزتُ السور، في المدخل الأنيق وقفتُ عند المرآة الكبيرة المزخرفة أطرافها، نظرتُ لنفسي لأرى سحر بصري، جعلتُ نفسي ممثلاً يرى نفسه، عيناي هما اللتان تتحركان يمينًا ويسارًا وأنا أضحك دون أن أرى أسناني، لأول مرة أضحك وأسناني تختبئ خلف ستارة سوداء...".
