"فعل كل شيء، وضع التصور لأعداد الحاضرين، اختار المقاعد ذات اللون الهادئ لتناسب كل الأهواء وتتفاعل مع جو القاعة البارد، في المكان المرتفع المواجه للحاضرين وضع طاولة تحمل اللون نفسه، وزع الأوراق على كل المقاعد لتدوين بيانات الحضور ووسائل الاتصال عليهم، حضر المدعوون جميعاً، ساعة كاملة وهم في غاية الاستمتاع بلقاء مثير، لم يجد لنفسه مكاناً ليحضر اللقاء، الحاضرون استأثروا بالمقاعد كلها بما ذلك مقعد صغير غير مخصص للجلوس ضُمّ أخيراً، انتهوا من الاجتماع، رأوه وهو واقف خلف الباب، أشار إليه أحد الذين كانوا جالسين في المكان المرتفع بأصبعه نحو القاعة، عرف القصد من الإشارة، دخل وحيداً، وجد الأوراق كما هي لم يتكفل بها أحد، جمعها وهو يستعرض الأسماء، سلمها وهو ينظر إلى الأرض، عاد إلى القاعة يتصور المشهد، سأل نفسه لِمَ فعل كل هذا؟ سأل نفسه مرة أخرى لِمَ هم فعلوا كل هذا؟ انطفأ النور وهو يتخيل المشهد، أظلم المكان، اشتدت حرارة المكان، غادر وهو يؤنب نفسه، خرج منحني الظهر من كثرة الوقوف".
