يعتبر المفكر العربي منيف الرزاز أحد رواد حركة التحرر القومي العربي في القرن العشرين، وتتمثل أهميته في كونه واحداً من أبرز مفكري المرحلة التاريخية العربية المعاصرة الذين أسهموا في التأسيس لأرضية فكرية ينبني عليها نقد جديد للمجتمع العربي، يقوم على استراتيجية مزدوجة تروم الانفلات من قبضة العادات والتقاليد وخلخلة التصور السادي من جهة، واستعادة لحظة التجاوز المؤسسة لوجودٍ مغاير من جهة أخرى، وجود ينبثق فيه إنسان عربي جديد.
لقد آمن الرزاز بحلم الوحدة العربية كغيره من القوميين، وآمن بالاشتراكية كسبيل لتحقيق العدالة الاجتماعية، وآمن بضرورة الوقوف في وجه العدو الصهيوني، وجه الاستعمار الجديد. إلا أنه رفض تأجيل موضوع الحرية، أو اعتبارها ثانوية في أي مرحلة من المراحل وتحت أي ذريعة.
من هنا جاء اختيار الكاتبة الدكتورة فدوى نصيرات عنوان «الحرية في فكر المفكر العربي منيف الرزاز» موضوعاً لهذه الدراسة نتيجة للتأملات الذاتية في الواقع العربي الراهن، وقد تبلورت الفكرة عند الكاتبة كما تقول في إطار الرغبة في تقديم قراءة تاريخية تحليلية للدور الذي قام به منيف الرزاز في سياق دعم وتفعيل الفكر القومي العربي الذي تمثلت أبرز أهدافه في الحرية، والمساواة، والعدالة الاجتماعية.
ومن هنا أيضاً فقد اتخذت هذه الدراسة من مسألة الحرية في فكر الرزاز موضوعاً للتحليل والنقد لاسيما وأن الرزاز أحد رواد حركة التحرر العربية في القرن العشرين الذين أسهموا في تناول مشكلات الوطن العربي المعاصرة في الفكر والممارسة، إلى جانب كونه مناضلاً قومياً وسياسياً عربياً. وبعد دراسة معمقة لمفهوم الحرية عند الرزّاز تخلصُ الكاتبة إلى أن أفكار الرزّاز حول الحرية تصلح مدخلاً أساسياً في إصلاح الدساتير العربية وفي بلورة خطاب عربي نهضوي حول المستقبل.
