بين أنين الذات وأنين الأوطان تدور رحى شعرية الدكتورة سجال الركابي وعيناها شاخصتان "صوب بستان النخيل" حتى بعد الرحيل. وهو أنين لا متناه في المطلق المكاني والزماني، "أيها الوجع/ أنت رفيقي في غربتي/ ترشدني في حيرتي/ أحل ضباب وحشتي/ صحواً جلياً". وهكذا تتشظى هذه الثيمة بشذراتها النصية والإيقاعية والدلالية عبر النسيج الكلي لقصائد المجموعة، وتظل مسرحاً للتعبير عن مكنونات الأنا وحنينها وقلقها وإحساسها بما يجري في الوطن وسط هذا الركام من الدمار والموت والظلم. كل تلك المعاني تمتزج في نسيج إيقاعي شفاف يصدر عن حلم ثخين يمزج بين اللوعة والحسرة والألم، والتوق الى الكلام والانعتاق منه الى الدعاء نشيج الروح حين تفقد الأمل. "سأتضرع الليلة في صلاتي/ ربنا آتنا سلاماً/ وطمأنينة/ ربنا أنزل برداً/ على القلوب الحزينة/ ربنا احفظ بلادي/ وأطفئ الفتنة اللعينة/ ربنا وأنر عقولنا/ بأفكار رصينة/ يارب". بهذه الروح يتشكل الخطاب الشعري عند الشاعرة الركابي في فلسفة لغوية لافتة بمركباتها الداخلية والوجدانية الايمانية فترسم بذلك قيمتها الحياتية الكلية وأجناسيتها الأدبية العالية.
يضم الكتاب قصائد متنوعة في الشعر العربي الحديث جاءت تحت العناوين الأتية: "هجران"، "إدمان"، "تعود الطيور"، "أفتقدتكم"، "بين مدفعين"، "حذار"، "ألمها"، دعاء"، "ربيع"، "غربة"، "فسيلة"، "كيف أنسى"، وقصائد أخرى.
