في مجموعته الشعرية هذه، يضع حسن الصلهبي شخصية السّندبادُ في سياق شعري جديد يرتفع بها إلى مستوى الرمز حينما يحاول الوصول إلى رؤية نهائية لليقين بشأنها، ومن ثم يعمل على إسقاطها ببعدها التاريخي والأسطوري على الواقع، ولهذا فهو يقدمها ضمن بنية درامية ارتكزت على فاعلية الرؤية للحدث، إي أنه حوّل السّندباد من مغامر مبحر إلى مقيدٍ سجين. "من أين أبدأُ يا سرابُ،/وسِربُكَ استعلى على نُصبِ الخواء،/فعُدتُ لا أدري بماذا أستعينْ./ وعُواؤكَ استشرى على غُنجِ الطيورِ،/فغرَّدَتْ وَلَها،/ولمً تتمايلِ الأشجارُ في الطربِ الحزينْ/وتفتقَ الدمعُ التليدُ بسحره،/ فأضاء في الأحداقِ،/لكنَّ المدى سجنٌ يُؤثَّثُ/بالسجينةِ والسجينْ/والعطرُ ذابَ على شفاهِ البحر،/هلْ للملحِ من برءٍ،/وهل للموجِ من مرسى مَكينْ...". ولهذا بقيت شخصية سّندباد حاضرة على امتداد النص عبر إيحاءاتها الرمزية ضمن منطقة وسطى بين الواقع والخيال. والأهم هنا أن الشاعر قدم شخصية السّندباد على شكل مشهد سيمي يتم فيه خلق فضاء تصويري خاص من مفردات الزمن الحاضر الذي يعيش فيه الشاعر ذاته، إلا أنه يعيد ترتيبها، أي (المفردات) بشكل يحقق الإثارة والشد للمتلقي.
يتألف الكتاب من قصيدتين في الشعر العربي الحديث جاءت تحت العناوين الأتية: 1- فاتحة، 2- السِّندبادُ في سديمِ الإفك. وهي قصيدة طويلة مؤلفة من إحدى عشر مقطعاً شعرياً.
