في كتابه «المساكنة السياسية الصعبة بعد إتفاق الدوحة» يُحيط الدكتور ناصر زيدان بالمشهد السياسي اللبناني الداخلي في ظل المعطيات الإقليمية والدولية الجديدة التي أثرت وما تزال على "مستقبل لبنان في ضوء تجربة الحروب الباردة بين أيار 2008 وأيار 2019". فقد شكَّل شهر أيار من العام 2008 فاصلاً زمنياً حاداً بين مرحلتين سياسيتين عاشهما لبنان، فما قبله شَهِدَ إضطراباً أمنياً وسياسياً هائلاً على وقع إغتيال الرئيس الشهيد رفيق الحريري ورفاقه عام 2005، مروراً بإنسحاب القوات السورية من لبنان، وصولاً للعدوان الإسرائيلي في تموز 2006، وما تبعه من تطورات. أما مرحلة ما بعد أيار 2008، فكانت صعبة للغاية، خرج لبنان خلالها من عدة أحداث كادت أن تُشعِل حروباً أهلية فيه لا تنتهي.
في ضوء هذه الأحداث اعتبر المؤلف أن إتفاق الدوحة الذي حصل في 21 أيار 2008، بين الأطراف اللبنانية كافة؛ أنهى ذيول الأحداث الأمنية التي حصلت في ذلك الشهر، وأرسى مقاربة سياسية جديدة ترتكز على مفاهيم غريبة نوعاً ما، منها موضوع الثلث المُعطِّل في الحكومة، ومنها أيضاً بدعة الوزير الملك. وقد خرج لقاء الدوحة بإتفاق جامع على إنتخاب قائد الجيش العماد ميشال سليمان رئيساً للجمهورية، ولكنه بالمقابل إعترف بالمساكنة بين السلاح الشرعي وسلاح المقاومة الذي لا يخضع لأمرة المؤسسات الأمنية الرسمية.
وعن وقع الأحداث في سورية التي اندلعت في آذار 2011، يرى المؤلف أن لبنان عاش سنوات صعبة – منها عامان ونصف العام من دون رئيس للجمهورية – ومرَّ فيها بمجموعة من الحروب الأهلية الباردة، والتي كادت أن تتحول إلى ساخنة أحياناً. أما اليوم في الـ 2019، فإن لبنان أمام تحديات وجودية جديدة، ولكن تجارب الماضي أثبتت أنه أكبر من الذوبان، وهو قابلٌ للعيش والاستمرار، لأنه مكانٌ عاصٍ على الإحتواء، فعلى أرضه تلاشت طموحات العديد من الأمبراطوريات عبر التاريخ، وبقي هو كالأرزة الشامخة.
يضم الكتاب مقالات سياسية للمؤلف تتناول الفترة من (2008 – 2019) وترصد الوضع اللبناني في ظل التحولات الإقليمية والدولية المستجدة، وتتحرى مواقف الأفرقاء اللبنانيين، وتعالج سبل الخروج من الأزمة ومستقبل لبنان.
