اعتبر الفلاسفة العقل عضواً أساسياً ومحورياً عند الإنسان وطريقة بحثهم له كانت أشبه ببحث فسيولوجيا هذا العضو، فالعقل معهم بمثابة بنية لها أجزائها ولكل جزء وظيفته وبجمع الأجزاء ووظائفها تتبلور قيمة العقل وتعلن في النهاية عن اكتمال ذلك العضو الإنساني. والفلسفة إذا أرادت أن تكون علماً فإنها ستجد في هذا الموضوع باباً واسعاً ومرحباً، ولكنه ـ كما قلنا سابقاً ـ علم من نوع جديد يلتزم بقوانين عالم الفلسفة التي أهمها الاختلاف، ولكنه من ناحية أخرى يلتزم بالاستقراء الإجرائي في جسم الإنسان بحيث يبدو الفلاسفة وكأنهم علماء طب في العقل... وهم بهذا الجهد المضنى كانوا قد نبهوا علماء النفس والأعصاب إلى تلك المنطقة الغامضة وكانوا كالمعتاد على أهبة المساعدة من دون حساب. لم ينفرد الفلاسفة بهذا العمل المميز وحسب، بل كانت لهم الريادة في القدرة الساحرة على تشريح الأفكار. فنحتهم للمفاهيم التي ترتكز عليها فلسفاتهم لم يكن عملاً اعتباطياً، بل كان جهداً ألقى الفلاسفة على عاتقهم من خلاله مسؤولية تفسير كل شيء وحل كل إشكال؛ وطريقة تفصيلهم لهذا كانت أشبه بالتشريح الطبي. فالمفهوم هو الفكرة = المرتكز للمذهب ككل ومن ثم تتبع إحداثيات ـ كما أسماها دولوزـ هذا المفهوم في خارطة تبيّن شبكة تفرع المفاهيم من المفهوم المركز لتبيان بقية المفاهيم المرتبطة به، وهي عملية قريبة إلى تشريح عضو ما. فالفكرة هي عضو أيضاً، وتشريحها يستدعي مختصاً لتبيان وظائفها وهذا المختص لم يكن إلا الفيلسوف. قد تكون هذه الطروحات غامضة بعض الشيء، لكن تأنياً في قراءة المحتويات ككل سيبدد كل تعقيد وهو ما يلزمنا بان ندعوكم الآن للدخول إلى ثنايا تفصيلات هذا البحث .
