ولكن تلك الجميلة لم تكن تظن أنَّ حُسنها سيكون وبالاً عليها، وسيقف حجر عثرة أمام طريقها في الحياة.
في "مأساة جميلة" ينطلق الروائي عدنان باقر الشخص من مقولة غولدمان التي ترى في الإبداع الروائي الحقيقي، رد فعل عن شعور بالاستياء من القيم الاجتماعية السائدة، وبذلك يكون سعي الروائي وطموحه هو البحث عن قيم أصيلة بديلة، لتلك القيم المتدنية، التي تمور بها الحياة الاجتماعية. ولذلك فإن النص الروائي هنا يبدو في حوار مع واقعه الاجتماعي حيث يمثل الصراع بين عائلتين في الرواية نموذجاً للصراع بين الخير والشر؛ الأولى تملك المال والجاه والثانية تملك القيم والأخلاق؛ فناصراً الذي يملك المال سوف يستدرج ياسراً إلى عالمه الدنيء ويورطه بالاستدانة والإفلاس ويكون على "جميلة" ابنة ياسر دفع الثمن إذ يضطر (الأب) إلى تزويج ابنته من زياد الذي ورث عن أبيه ناصر حب المال والشهوة... وبعد معاناة شديدة تعيشها جميلة بزواجها منه داخل وخارج حدود الوطن تحصل على الطلاق بمساعدة محامية تعمل في مجال حقوق المرأة وتعود إلى بلادها برفقة أخيها وسيم ... ينتظرها حبها الأول عباس الكاتب والشاعر والمثقف الذي سوف يقف إلى جانبها ويخلصها من مأساتها.
"مأساة جميلة" قصة تعيد البريق للرواية العائلية، يقدم خلالها عدنان باقر الشخص مقاربة مختلفة للعلاقات الأسرية في مجتمع أبوي، ويمنحها خصوصية معيَّنة، ينتصر لقيم الخير على الشر ويوسع للحب مكاناً رحباً وسط الألم.
