بطل رواية «رحيل ولقاء» شاب ثلاثيني لا يبالي بأي شيء يدور من حوله، ولا يهتم بأحد، حياته مملة وفيها من الرتابة والتكرار ما فيها.. ولا يجد في حياته شيء يستحق أن يروى، إلا أنه وبمحض الصدفة، والتي زجّه فيها صديقٌ له.. جعلته يشهد أمراً ويدخل خضم تجربة تستحق أن تُروى. يعرف فريد عن صديقه حب القراءة، وأنه لا شيء في حياته مهم أصلاً باستثناء القراءة، ولذلك قاده إلى شراء مكتبة قديمة يبدو أن مالكها باعها تحت ظروف معينة.. وعندما بدأ بقراءة محتوياتها لفته خربشات بقلم رصاص، وعبارات من قبيل (هذا جزاء ما تفعلينه بهذا الرجل.. هذا جزاء تعجرفك أيتها البائسة البغيضة)، ومذكرات تقول فيها: (توشك السعادة ان تغادر سماء حياتي إلى غير رجعة. فقدت الرغبة في كل شيء، فقدت الرغبة في كل شيء، فقدت الرغبة في الحياة..." وبتصفح سريع بحثاً عن أي كتابة أخرى توقفت به الصفحات عند وردة متيبسة، فتوقع أن صاحب هذا الكتاب امرأة، وبدأ يسأل نفسه: أتراها انتحرت؟ أتراها قد ماتت كمداً؟ أيستطيع الإنسان الصمود وكل هذه الأوجاع ترافق أنفاسه؟ ومنذ تلك اللحظة أصبح هاجسه معرفة حقيقة هذه الكتابات التي وجدها مبثوثة في عشرات الكتب؟ وكلما ازداد بحثاً ازداد تعلقاً بها.. وبعد رحلة بحثٍ طويلة عن صاحبة المكتبة يقوده القدر إلى لقائها، وتكون الفتاة سعيدة جداً بهذا اللقاء.. وليبدأ الاثنان حياة مشتركة أخرى...
من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
تراها ما الذي تريده مني؟ هل للأمر علاقة بالكتب؟ لا أعرف ما هذا الذي ينتابني. أشعر أن هناك شيئاً يغشاني. يطوقني. يسيرني. أشعر أن هناك شيئاً ما. أو أحداً ما ينتظرني هناك. أتراها قد أتت بنفسها بعد أن عرفت من البائع هويتي فدلها عليَ؟ كان ليخبرني لو أنه فعل. ولكن، لماذا تراها استدعتني. حتى لكأنني أسمع إلحاحها في تلك الحروف الظاهرة على شاشة هاتفي.
كل هذه التساؤلات وأكثر، توالت عليّ كمطر يسيّره الشوق إلى التراب ضج رأسي بها حتى أرهقتني، وعلى الرغم من قصر المسافة بين منزلي والمكتبة ولكنها طالت. كدت أتشاجر مع سائقي الباصات وسيارات الأجرة، وعابري الشارع في تلك الساحة المسماة ساحة شتورا، حيث بإمكانك أن ترى لبنان بأكمله هناك، نموذج مصغر عن لبنان هذا الذي نعيش فيه ونتغنى بأشياء لم تعد موجودة فيه، أو لعل القبح قد حجبها، أو لعله قد ألبسها لباس القبح الذي يلبسه كل شيء حولنا".
