تُصور رواية «في المنفى وجدتُ عينيك وطن» أجواء جريمة استثنائية يتم فيها قتل رجل وزوجته بالخطأ تاركين فتاتهم الوحيدة أسيرة أخاها الكبير وزوجته المتسلطة التي أقنعت زوجها بضرورة الوصاية على أموال الفتاة الصغيرة ومن ثم سرقتها لا بل تزويجها من أخٍ لها مشوه الوجه، ولأن الفتاة لا تستطيع الرفض لصغر سنها تقرر الهروب يوم عرسها بعد إخبار الشرطة أن أخاها هو من قتل والداها. تنجح الفتاة في الهروب إلى بلد آخر تجد فيه ملجأً ومنفىً اختيارياً تخفق بين جوانبه أنفاس الحرية ولكنها وجدت نفسها وحيدة، فبدأت بالبحث عن عمل حتى ساقها قدرها إلى قاتل أبواها الحقيقي من دون أن تعرف ذلك.. الرجل الذي ظنت أنها وجدت في عينيه الوطن.. فهل مر كل شيء كحلم جميل سرعان ما انتهى؟!
والجواب: لا لم تنتهِ حِكايتُنا هُنا... لها تَتمة في الجزء الثاني.
وأجمل الكلام ما تقوله الكاتبة زهراء يوسف عن روايتها هذه:
"أن يكون الإنسان عاشق.. بل ومُتيّم!
أن يُحب بطريقةٍ خيالية فيلومه الجميع بواقعية.

أن يُتيّم الإنسان بشخص هو أن يفي لهُ بالعشق رغم كل الظروف والصُدف السيئة فالحُبُ شيءٌ لا ينتهي.. لا يقل.. لا يتبدّل ولا يتغيّر ولا يُنسى!".
