سؤال الهوية وعدم القدرة على تمثل شخص آخر ليس هو أنت هو المعنى الذي تنهض عليه رواية «غُربة يهودية» للكاتبة رجاء بندر التي اختارت أن تشتغل على صعوبة الانتماء إلى مجال ثقافي مُغلق في شكل علاقة حب مستحيلة جمعت وفرقت رجل عربي مثقف يمتلُك المال والجاه بفتاة يهودية جميلة تنتمي إلى عائلة فقيرة تعيش في اليمن؛ مالبث أن فارقها بعد ثلاث سنوات زواج تاركاً طفلته معها تعيش طقوس اليهودية في بيت الجدّة والأم إلى أن أصبحت شابة. وبعدما فارقت الأم الحياة، يأتي الأب ويطلب من ابنته الرجوع إلى موطنه والعيش معه ومع زوجاته وأمه وأبناءه وخوفٌ داخله من أن تبقى ابنته على دينها اليهودي.. أما هي فعزمت ومن أول خطوة خطتها معه أن تحافظ على يهوديتها ويمنيتها إلى أن تموت.. تنتقل الفتاة إلى موطن الأب وتدخل في شبكة معقدة من العلاقات الاجتماعية والعائلية، يتقبلها البعض ويرفضها البعض الآخر؛ ويحتضنها الأب بعطفهِ وحنانهِ. فتجد نفسها في حياة أخرى غير التي اعتادت عليها. تلبس النقاب الأسود وتزور المقابر وتعيش حكايا اجتماع الجن والإنس بين الواقع والخيال.
من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
"فجأة اقتحمتْ فكرةٌ تأصلتْ داخلي كضربةِ الرَّأسِ تماماً، إنَّهُ مِن المحالِ في هذه البقعةِ من الأرضِ أو خلفَ هذه العباءاتِ الكثيرةِ جداً أنْ تُوجدَ امرأةٌ مِثلي، حقاً أنا وحيدة؟ أنا اليهوديةُ الوحيدةُ في هذه الحدودِ من الأرض؟ هلْ هذا معقول؟ شعَرتُ أنَّ قلبي حينها تَغَطَّى بشرشفِ مِن الظنونِ والشكوكِ وشعَرتُ أنّي في عُزلة، حتى والدي الذي بجانبي لم أعدْ أراه. شعورٌ مرعبٌ أنْ تكونَ معزولاً…".
