يمثل هذا الكتاب الحلقة الثالثة والأخيرة من المشروع النظري الذي تم اقتراحه لوصف الإمكانات الأكثر وروداً لإنتاج وتلقي النص الروائي، والذي كان منطلقه النظري المحض كتاب "آليات إنتاج النص الروائي -نحو تصور سيميائي" المتضمن لمحاولة بلورة تصور متماسك لمراحل بناء النص الروائي المجرد، استناداً إلى فلسفة بورس الذريعية. ثم كتاب "المعنى وفرضيات الإنتاج" الذي عملنا فيه على مزيد من تدقيق الآليات المقترحة التي تهم المستويات المحايثة السابقة على التمظهر المادي للنص، وأيضاً على تجريب إنتاجيتها وفعاليتها من خلال كشف كيفية تشكلها في روايات نجيب محفوظ.
إن هذا الكتاب، رغم كونه حلقة ثالثة في سياق متدرج، يمتاز بكونه قد خصص للمستويات الأكثر أهمية، لأنها تتصل ببنيات التظهير، بوصف هذا الأخير يعتبر المعطى المادي الوحيد الذي يواجه القراء المختلفين في الطاقات الإداركية والوجود في الزمن، والذي من جهة يعطي الشكل والمعنى لمجمل المراحل المحايثة، ومن جهة ثانية، يمتاز بحرية مخصوصة تتيحها أو تفرضها لحظة الكتابة النهائية، بكل ما يلحقها من تداعيات ذهنية موقعية، غير مفكر فيها بالضرورة في المراحل المحايثة، قد تتجاوز أحياناً خلق سياقات تأويلية للمحتويات المحايثة، قد تتجاوز أحياناً خلق سياقات تأويلية للمحتويات المحايثة، إلى خلق سياقات دينامية قد تفيض على الموضوع المؤول..
