عندما كتب حمزة الهاشمي (مبتعث في السودان) فهو لم يقتصر على كتابة سيرة شخصية لحياته كطالب مبتعث من بلده الأم إلى جمهورية السودان فحسب، بل أراد إعادة حركة الحياة، أو جزء من الحياة، في فضاءات حقيقية ليحيا فيها من جديد، بمعنى أنّه قصد تقديم وجوداً أو وعياً ذاتياً متقاطعاً مع زمان ومكان محددين، ومرتبطين بجزئيات من سيرته ككاتب للسيرة بصورتها الواقعية، أو كاختيار جمالي لاستعادة وتصوير المعيش الشخصي، ولعله أراد أيضاً روي سيرورة زمن في وقت يكون قد مضى أفضله.
وعبر صفحات الكتاب يقدم المؤلف محطات من رحلة الابتعاث لجامعة الخرطوم التي قصدها لدراسة الهندسة المدنيّة، يتعرف من خلالها القارئ على ثقافة وحضارة بلد عربي لم يعرف عنه إلا القليل، بطقوس أعراسه وعاداته وتقاليده، وأمكنته الطبيعية والجبلية وأسواقه القديمة وعماراته الحديثة؛ وغير ذلك من طرائقه في المشاريب والأطعمة، وأخيراً أهم من فيه ناسّه الطيبون. ولكن، ما هي قصة تلك (الفاتنة السمراء) التي "لا تنتهي ولم ولن تنتهي" والتي جعلت من حمزة الهاشمي شاعراً يكتب أجمل القصيد.
لنقرأ هذه الأبيات من قصيدة نظمها الكاتب "لها وفيها وعنها وحولها علّها تجد لها طريقاً يلتمس وصلاً إلى قلبها الرقيق وفؤادها الحاني:
"الـليـالـي فراقـك والمواصـل سـراج / والفرح يـا حياتي شيء ضد الزعـل
المشاعر ورودك والمحاني زجاج /وإن كسـرت الزجاجة وردكم ما ذبل
يا ورود المحبة خافقي لك سياج / يعلم الله لغيرك ما بقلبي محل…".
يتألف الكتاب من العناوين العناوين الآتية:
1- الإنطلاقة، 2- رحلة إلى المجهول، 3- برلوم، 4- صدام الحضارات، 4- الهندسة المدنية، 5- السودان… معالم وثقافات، 6- الفاتنة السمراء، 7- حفل التخرج.
