امرأة شابة يبلغها ان أخاها مريض، وأنه سيقضي الشهور الأخيرة من حياته طريح الفراش في المستشفى. تأتي لزيارته يوماً بعد يوم. ويوماً بعد يوم تزداد علاقتهما حميمية حتى تغدو مركز وجودهما. وفي كنف الغرفة البيضاء ينقضي الوقت على ايقاع الفصول.
يوكو اوغاوا نالت جائزة "اوكتاغاوا" الادبية اليابانية عن روايتها "الحمل" عام 1991؛ صدر لها الى اليوم أكثر من عشرين رواية ترجم معظمها الى عدد كبير من اللغات.
