محمد علي شمس الدين أديب وشاعر من جبل عامل في جنوب لبنان.
ولد في العام 1942 م في بلدة بيت ياحون في جبل عامل (جنوب لبنان) نشأ في بلدة عربصاليم (جنوب لبنان) وفيها ترعرع وكبر حائز على دكتوراة دولة في التاريخ، كما يحمل إجازة في الحقوق تفتحت موهبته الشعرية باكرا، ويعتبر من طليعة شعراء الحداثة في العالم العربي منذ العام 1973 وحتى الآن، وقد شارك في العديد من المهرجانات الشعرية في البلاد العربية ويعكف على كتابة مقالات نقدية وأدبية عن الشعر والأدب والفكر في المجلات والصحف اللبنانية والعربية، وهو عضو الهيئة الإدارية في اتحاد الكتّاب اللبنانيين.

"انظر.. هل تبصر غير سحاب يرحل خلف سحاب خلف سراب.. حتى آخر أيام التكوين؟ وسطورك هل هي إلا، سطر في الماء وسطر في الريح وسطر في الرمل وسطر في ألواح الطين؟ أتقن خطك فوق الماء، وخلِّ الريح تثبت أقدامك في هودجها وعلى الرمل، أقم كالنمل قصورك واسكنها، سترى أن الممحاة ستكتب سيرتك الكبرى في الطين. ولماذا أنت تغامر تحت سماء لا تبصر؟ أو فوق تراب لا يسمع؟ يا هذا الغافي المفتوح العين وليس يرى، حبلك مقطوع من سرة آدم حتى يومك هذا لم يوصل بالباء اللام فما تصنع؟.. حدّق في ذاتك هل تبصر فيها شيئاً ما؟ طفلاً يحبو ولداً يلعب أو رجلاً مكتمل القوة يسعى في الأرض، يحب امرأة يتزوجها، ينجب أطفالاً وبساتين.. أم لا شيء على المرآة ولا شيء أمامك أو خلفك..".
في ممالك محمد علي شمس الدين العالية إضاءات فلسفية، واسترسالات إنسانية، وشطحات تأملية تصل الماضي بالحاضر، لتبني ممالك ورقية تتهادى على صفحاتها عرائس الشعر.
