خلال تسع سنوات أمضاها الباحث في وظيفة "خبير البحث التربوية" ورئيس مركز البحوث التربوية في وزارة التربية والتعليم في دولة البحرين، تيسر له الاطلاع على مئات أوراق البحث والدراسات التي كانت ترسل إلى المركز مباشرة، وقد تمكن عبر تلك السنوات في تسجيل مجموعة في الوقائع المتكررة، واستخراج عيّنة من الظواهر السائدة أو المشتركة، وتدوين لائحة من الملاحظات البارزة، واستنتاج أهم سمات الصورة الذهنية المتشكلة في أذهان معظم العاملين في ميدان التربية عن البحث العلمي التربوي والتي يرى أنها تعاني من عدم جدوى، ومرد ذلك يعود إلى النمط البحثي المتبع منذ أكثر من نصف قرن في المجتمعات العربية والذي قاد آلاف البحوث السابقة إلى التخزين في المكتبات العامة، ومكتبات الجامعة، فهؤلاء الباحثون يتصرفون بثقة وهذا يبعث خلل في منهجية البحث العلمي.
والباحث في هذا الكتاب يمارس حقه في الشك المنهجي حيث كتب ما دار في ذهنه من أفكار حول الممارسات التي اعتقد أنها ساهمت في تحويل البحث التربوي بحالته الراهنة في المجتمعات العربية إلى مهزلة يرى ضرورة العمل على إيقافها، وهدف الباحث هو لفت النظر إلى بعض القضايا التي يمكن أن تساعد في إصلاح الممارسة البحثية في العالم العربي كما أنه في مقدمته يلفت نظر القارئ إلى أنه تعمد الخروج بشكل واضح على الكتابة المفرطة في التهذيب المحابي وتلك المألوفة في البحوث الشائعة، على أمل أن يكون قد نجح في خض مجتمع البحث التربوي، وزجّ الباحثين التقليديين لكي ينتبهوا إلى خطورة سلوكهم في كبح التطوير وقمع التجديد وتعقيم خصوبة المستقبل.
