عالم نفس وفيلسوف إنساني ألماني أمريكي ولد في مدينة فرانكفورت -ألمانيا في 23 مارس عام 1900. هاجر إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في 1934 من أعماله :الخوف من الحرية (1941) التحليل النفسى والدين (1950) اللغة المنسية : مدخل إلى فهم الأحلام والقصص الخيالية والأساطير (1951) المجتمع العاقل (1955) رسالة سيجموند فرويد : تحليل لشخصيته وتأثيره (1959) أزمة التحليل النفسى : مقالات عن فرويد وماركس وعلم النفس الاجتماعى (1970) تشريح نزوع الإنسان إلى التدمير (1973) كما حرر كتبا، بأقلام كتاب متعددين عن بوذية زن ومفهوم ماركس للإنسان وغيرها توفي فروم في 23 مارس عام 1980.
Book Description
إن هذه الدراسة هي الكتاب الأول من عمل شامل في النظرية التحليلية النفسية. وقد بدأتُ بدراسة العدوان والتدميرية لأنها، فضلاً عن أنها إحدى المشكلات النظرية الأساسية في التحليل النفسي، تجعلها موجةُ التدميرية التي تغمر العالم إحدى أوثق الدراسات اتصالاً بالأمور العملية.
وعندما شرعت في هذا الكتاب قبل أكثر من ست سنوات استهنت كثيراً بالصعوبات التي من شأني أن أواجهها. وسرعان ما صار واضحاً أنني لن أستطيع أن أكتب عن التدميرية البشرية على الوجه الذي يفي بالغرض إذا ظللت ضمن حدود ميدان كفاءتي الأكبر، وهو التحليل النفسي. إذ بينما المقصود أن يكون هذا البحث تحليلياً نفسياً قبل كل شيء، فأنا أحتاج كذلك إلى القليل من المعرفة في ميادين أخرى، وخصوصاً في فيزيولوجيا الأعصاب، وعلم النفس الحيواني، وعلم المستحاثات، والأنثروبولوجيا، لكي أتجنّب العمل في إطار مرجعي شديد الضيق يؤدّي، من ثم، إلى التحريف. كان ينبغي لي على الأقل أن أكون قادراً على التحقق من صحة استنتاجاتي بالمعطيات الرئيسية من الميادين الأخرى لأتيقّن من أن فرضياتي لا تناقضها وأحدّد، كما كان أملي، مسألة هل تؤكد فرضياتي.
ومادام لا يوجد عمل يَذكر ويوحّد المكتشفات حول العدوان في كل هذه الميادين، أو حتى يُجمّلها في أي مجال من مجالات التخصّص، كان عليّ أن أقوم بهذه المحاولة بنفسي. وقد اعتقدتُ أن من شأن هذه المحاولة أن تخدم قرّائي.
