عبد الغني بن إسماعيل بن عبد الغني النابلسي الدمشقي الحنفي (1050 هـ - 1143 هـ / 1641 - 1731م) شاعر شامي وعالم بالدين والأدب ورحالة مكثر من التصنيف. ولد ونشأ وتصوف في دمشق. قضى سبع سنوات من عمره في دراسة كتابات "التجارب الروحيّة" لِفُقهاء الصوفية. وقد تعدّدت رحلاته عبر العالم الإسلامي، إلى إسطنبول ولبنان والقدس وفلسطين ومصر والجزيرة العربية وطرابلس وباقي البلاد السورية. استقر في مدينته دمشق وتوفي فيها.

هذه رسالةٌ مختصرةٌ، أكثرَ الإخوان في طلبها منّي، وطالَ الترجّي لها عندهم، واتّسع بساطُ التمنّي، ووالله الذي لا إله إلا هو ما حملني على تصنيفها محبَّتي لاستعمال الدُّخان، ولا تَعصُّبي بالمخالفة فيه مع أحدٍ من أهل الزمان، وإنما بعثني على ذلك قصدُ الإنصاف في البيان، والمحافظة على أحكام الشريعة المطهّرة حتى لا يدخلها شيءٌ من الزيادة والنقصان، والانتصاف لحكمِ الإباحة أن يزولَ عن هذا النبات المخصوص، بغير أدلّةٍ شرعيةٍ ولا نصوص، بل بمجرّدِ القياسات العقلية، والتوهّمات النفسانية، فإنَّ الإباحة يجبُ المحافظة عليها في كلِّ ما هو موصوف بها من غير تغيير، كما يجبُ المحافظةُ على الفرضِ والحرام والمندوب والمكروه في كلِّ قليلٍ من الأعمال وكثير، لأنّها أحكامُ الشريعة الخمسة، التي يجب على كلِّ أحدٍ أن يَسوسَ بمراعاتها نفسه، ولا يضرُّ إلا التعصّبُ والميلُ بالهوى، و«الأعمال بالنيات ولكلِّ امرئٍ ما نوى» وما يُوجبُ الخطأ في الجواب، ويقتضي الانحرافَ بالإنسان عن منهج الصواب
