عبد الغني بن إسماعيل بن عبد الغني النابلسي الدمشقي الحنفي (1050 هـ - 1143 هـ / 1641 - 1731م) شاعر شامي وعالم بالدين والأدب ورحالة مكثر من التصنيف. ولد ونشأ وتصوف في دمشق. قضى سبع سنوات من عمره في دراسة كتابات "التجارب الروحيّة" لِفُقهاء الصوفية. وقد تعدّدت رحلاته عبر العالم الإسلامي، إلى إسطنبول ولبنان والقدس وفلسطين ومصر والجزيرة العربية وطرابلس وباقي البلاد السورية. استقر في مدينته دمشق وتوفي فيها.

يقول جبران:
- وكانت روحه الظمآنة تشرب من خمرة الروح فتسكر, ثمّ تهيم سابحة مرفرفة في عالم المحسوسات حيث تطوف أحلام الشعراء وميول العشّاق وأماني المتصوّفين. ثمّ يفاجئها الصحو فتعود إلى عالم المرئيّات لتدوّن ما رأته وسمعته بلغة جميلة مؤثّرة - .
هذا هو ابن الفارض, روح نقيّة كأشعّة الشمس, وقلب متّقد كالنار, وفكرة صافية كبحيرة بين الجبال. وفي شعره ما لم يحلم به الأوّلون ولم يبلغه المتأخرون.
شرح ديوان ابن الفارض للنابلسي
استطاع الشيخ النابلسيّ في كتابه هذا أنّ يكون متميّزاً عن أهل عصره في أدائه اللغويّ؛ فقد عبّر عن معانيه المختارة في شرحه تعبيراً سهلاً دقيقاً, يتناوبه على غير تساوٍ أو ترتيب الخلو من مظاهر الزينة والصنعة اللفظيّة التي كانت تشغل بال كتّاب عصره وما بعده وحتّى نهاية القرن التاسع عشر في تعبيرهم عن حاجات أنفسهم، وعن حقائق عصرهم وجلّ موضوعاتهم.
وإذا تنوّعت الأفكار التي يعالجها المؤلّف تبعاً للمواضيع الواردة في أبيات ابن الفارض فلا بدّ من تنوّع وسائل الأداء اللغوي؛ فتارة يكون التعبير جافّاً لا مجال للصورة الفنيّة أو للزينة اللفظيّة, وتارة تكاد تخرج من إطارها الزمني لتحمل الكثير من خصائص الأسلوب العلميّ ببساطته ووضوحه وحمله للفكرة والمادّة العلميّة, وكأنّه قد انعتق من عقال عصره وأسر أساليبه, محطِّماً قيود الجمود, مصدِّعاً الجدار السميك الفاصل للكتّاب في عصره عن الحياة.
