يوضح المؤلف بأنه مهتمّ بنقطتين أساسيّتين: الدّرس الدّلاليّ والقرآن. وقد أراد منذ البداية أن يكوّن لدى القارئ فكرة جليّة تماماً عن ارتباط المنهجيّة القائمة على علم الدّلالة semantic methodology بالدّراسات القرآنية، قاصداً إلى أنّ ثمّة دمجاً أو جمعاً في الكتاب بين النّظر المعتمد على مناهج البحث الدّلاليّ، والتطبيق الذي مادّتهُ المعجمُ اللغويّ للقرآن الكريم.
ونظراً إلى تعقيد ما يسمّى علم الدّلالة semantics وزيادة افتقاره إلى الانسجام والتنظيم عمد المؤلّف منذ البدء إلى إيضاح تصوّره الخاصّ لعِلْم الدّلالة، وهو يقول في هذا الشأن: "إنّ عِلْم الدّلالة كما فهمتُه دراسةٌ تحليليةٌ لتعابير المفتاحية Key - terms في لغةٍ من اللّغات ابتغاء الوصول أخيراً إلى إدراك مفهوميّ للنظرة إلى العالم Weltanschauung لدى النّاس الذين يستخدمون تلك اللغة أداةٌ، ليس فقط للتحدّث والتفكُّر، بل لتقديم مفهومات وتفاسير للعالم الذي يحيط بهم". وهو يرى أنّ الدّراسة الدّلالية للقرآن ستعالج الكيفية التي يرى فيها هذا الكتابُ الكريمُ بناءَ عالَم الوجود والمكوّنات الرّئيسية للعالم، وكيف يرتبط بعضُها ببعض. ويبيّن أنَّ المهمّ لتحقيق قصْده المحدّد من الكتاب وهو نوع ُالنظام المفهوميّ الذي يعمل في القرآن، لا المفهومات الفرديّة متباعدةٌ ومنظوراً إليها في حدّ ذاتها بعيداً عن البناء العامّ.
وعندما شرع الوحْيُ الإسلاميّ باستخدامها كان النظامُ كلّهُ، أي السّياقُ العامُّ الذي استخدمتُ فيه، هو الذي صدم مشركي مكة بوصفه شيئاً غريباً وغير مألوف وغير مقبول، تبعاً لذلك، وليس الكلمات الفردية والمفهومات نفسها ويقول ههنا: "الكلماتُ نفسُها كانت متداولة في القرن السّابع [الميّلادي]، إن لم يكن ضمن الحدود الضيّقة لمجتمع مكّة التجاريّ، فعلى الأقلّ في واحدة من الدّوائر الدّينيّة في جزيرة العرب ما جدّ هو فقط أنّه دخلت أنظمةٌ مفهوميّة مختلفة. والإسلامُ جمعَها، دمجَها جميعاً في شبكةٍ مفهوميّة جديدة تماماً مجهولة حتّى الآن".
