إنّ الكَمَّ الهائلَ لِلْمَسائلِ التي عالَجَها الرّوميّ استدعاه أن يقولَ: «.. لِأَغراضِ التّحقيقِ الحاضرِ، سنتناولُ المسألةَ الأكثَرَ أهمّيّةً وصَميميّةً في عالَمِهِ الفِكْريّ: مَسْألةَ الشّخصيّةِ الفَرْديّة، والإلهيّ، والبَشريّ. إلّا أنّ هذه المسألةَ تتفرّعُ إلى مسائلَ فلسفيّةٍ أساسيّةٍ مختلفة، مِن مِثْلِ طبيعةِ الرّوح، وحُرّيةِ الإرادة، والخلودِ، وصِلةِ البَشريِّ بالإلهيّ. وتحتَ هذه العُنْواناتِ الجُزئيّةِ المختلفة، سَنُحاولُ تلخيصَ التّصوُّراتِ الأساسيّةِ عندَ الرّوميّ في هذه المسائل، مع إحالاتٍ تاريخيّةٍ مختصَرَةٍ إلى أصْلِ كلِّ مسألةٍ وتطوّرِها قبْلَ الرّوميّ».
وقد جاء عَمَلُ المفكِّرِ الدّكتور خليفة عبد الحكيم في هذا الكتاب، في تقديمٍ وتسعةِ فُصولٍ، أخذَتِ الصّورةَ الآتيةَ: 1- تقديم، 2- طَبيعةُ الرّوح، 3- مَسْألةُ الخَلْق، 4- الارتقاءُ، 5- العِشْقُ، 6- حُرِّيّةُ الإرادة، 7- الإنسانُ المِثاليّ، 8- بقاءُ الشّخصيّة، 9- الله، 10- وَحْدَةُ الوجودِ عندَ الصّوفيّة.
وكفانا المؤلِّفُ عَناءَ تفصيلِ المادّةِ العلميّة الدّاخليّة في كلِّ مبحَثٍ؛ إذ فصّلَ القولَ في ذلك في فِهْرسِ المحتويات.
والطّابَعُ العامُّ لِتَناوُلِ الدّكتور عبد الحكيم هو العُمْقُ والشُّمولُ والاختزالُ والانتقادُ والتّأطيرُ التّاريخيّ. وقد وَصَفَ هو نفسُه عمَلَه بـ«مُخطَّط انتقاديّ وتاريخيّ». إذ هو مُخطَّطٌ عامٌّ قائمٌ على المُحاكَمةِ والتّقويمِ وَوَضْعِ الفِكَر في إطارِها التّاريخيّ.
