هناك إستعذاب فطري للموسيقى لدى كل إنسان، لكن هذا الإستعذاب نما وتطور عندي بالتدريج، أصبحت علاقتي مع الموسيقى ليست فطرية فقط، بل ثقافية وفلسفية أيضاً، أما علاقتي مع الفيزياء فهي فلسفية فقط، وسأتحدث عن ذلك فيما بعد.
فأنا أعتبر نفسي كائناً موسيقياً بالرغم من أنني لا أعزف على آية آلة، ولا أقول إنني كائن فيزيائي، لأنني لست متخصصاً فيها، لكنني أملك أن أقول إنني كائن فلسفي.
وهذه الحقيقة تأتت من الفيزياء بصورة أساسية أو ربما مطلقة، الفيزياء هي التي جعلت مني كائناً فلسفياً، وفي مرحلة متأخرة جعلت مني الموسيقى كائناً فلسفياً أيضاً.
في مرحلة الدراسة الإبتدائية وما بعدها، كنت، شأن كل العراقيين، مغرماً بمنولوجات عزيز علي، وكنت استمع بإستعذاب إلى الأغنيات العراقية من تلحين الكويتيين، صالح وداود، ولا أزال أتوق بحنين خاص إلى أغنية (للناصرية) لصديقة الملاية.
وقد أخبرني فيما بعد الدكتور فاروق برتو أن صبر في قول المغنية "الله يخلي صبري صندوق أمين البصرة" هو خاله عندما كان أمين صندوق البصرة، ولا شك أن صيغة "صندوق أمين" تركية، وهذا أضفى على الأغنية طابعاً سوسيولوجياً محبباً للنفس.
