ألف مقام ليعرفوا مذاهب الأولياءو مسالك الأصفياء وما لهم عند الله من شرف المقامات ولطائف المكاشفات فيقصدوا بأرواحهم في معالي الدرجات ويطلبوا منها رفيع المنزلات، فإن بين العبد والربّ سبحانه منازل إذا لم يسلكوها لم يعرفوا حقائق العبودية والربوبية، ولم يذوقوا حلاوة الوصال ولم يطعموا طعم المحبة في المشاهدات، وهنالك مواضع الخطرات والامتحانات لا يقطعها إلّا من اقتحم أوائل هذه الدرجات وبلغ إلى أعلى النهايات حتى ينجو من مهالك الطريقة ويصل إلى معاني الحقيقة.
ذكر أن الخضر عليه السلام قال: بين العبد وبين مولاه ألف مقام، ولذلك قال ذو النون المصري، وأبو يزيد البسطامي، والجنيد، وابو بكر الكتاني رضي الله عنهم، قال ذو النون: بينه وبين العبد ألف علم، قال الجنيد: ألف قصر، وقال الكتاني: ألف مقام، وقال الجنيد: في طريق الله ألف مانع حاجز عن الله عزّ وجل فلابدّ من الجواز عليهم؛ قال أيضاً: في الطريق ألف قصر في كل قصر قاطع من قطاع الطريق موكل على المريد السالك؛ ولكل موكل مكر وغدر خلاف الآخر؛ فإذا جاء السالك غدر الموكل معه شيء يعطى به فيمنعه عن الطريق ويحجبه عن الله؛ فإذا كان الأمر بهذه المثابة فلابدّ من عالم عرف المنجيات والمهلكات حتى يبين لهم أسرار المقامات ويصرح طريق التخلص عن الآفات.
