وقفت أمام المركب كعادتي كل صباح. الآن تبدو أفضل حالاً من المرات السابقة التي رأيتك فيها، اليوم تلمع ذهباً في البحر الضاحك، أشرعتك المفتوحة تتطاير مع النسيم البارد الجميل، الرياح مؤاتية للرحيل والمراكب صغيرها وكبيرها تتأهب للسفر، والبحارة يتوافدون كأسراب نمل، سمر كخشب المراكب التي يعتلون، البضائع بصناديقها المختلفة منثورة على المرفأ وعلى أكتاف البحارة والنساء قليلاً ما يأتين لقضاء حاجة عاجلة ويرحلن سريعاً، أو أنهن يقفن على معبدة مثلي ليتفرجن على الحركة الجارية، أما الأطفال فهم الضيف الدائم للمرفأ، يتراكضون حول الصناديق، على عرائض السفن أو في البحر الدافئ المهيب.
