كتابٌ يُفاجئ النقّاد في الغرب والشرق، ويدحضُ مقولةً سادت لعقودٍ وهي أن الرومنطيقية في الشعر العربي المعاصر، استيرادٌ غربي ويؤكّد الكتاب بالمقابل أنها مؤصَّلة في التراث وفي إبداعات الشعراء العرب الخالدين. ويشير إلى أن كل إيحاءات تصدر عن أي كاتب مهما يكن انتماؤه، إنما هي باطلة ومحض افتراء.ولتوثيق كل ذلك، يعمد الدكتور فيكتور غريّب إلى اختيار ستمئة وعشرة أبيات من آلاف الأبيات المنشورة في دواوين الشعر العربي، لمختلف شعراء العربية بدءاً بمعلَّقة امرؤ القيس مروراً بالشعر الأندلسي، ووصولاً إلى روّاد النهضة العربية، وما أتحفنا به جبران خليل جبران وخليل مطران وأبو القاسم الشابي والياس أبو شبكة وابراهيم ناجي. ويوضّح أن ذاك الكمّ الهائل من القصائد هو وحده كفيل بإبطال الادِّعاءات المزيّفة. ويجيء هذا الكتاب الموثَّق شاهداً على الإبداع الذي تميَّز به شعراؤنا الكبار، والذي تماهى في نتاجٍ زاخرٍ بالفنّ والتجدُّد والأصالة. حتى أنه أدهش الهيئة التي ناقشته عندما قُدّم كأطروحة دكتوراه في جامعة السوربون الأولى في باريس برئاسة المستشرق العالمي الكبير البروفسور ريجيس بلاشير، بطرحه المعاكس لما كان سائداً. وحاز تقديراً بدرجة مُشرّف.
