استأنس المؤلّف بشهادات رجال ونساء عانوا مرارة العيش في بلدان ظنّوا أنها أوطان، كما اعتمد على تجربته الذاتية ليخلص إلى أن الاجتهاد ما هو في حقيقة الأمر سوى إعادة جدولة الأصولية، وأن حرية الاعتقاد، واستقلالية الفرد وحرّيته في تسيير ذاته، والمساواة بين الجنسين، وغيرها من القضايا الإنسانية المعاصرة، لا يمكن بأي حال من الأحوال أن تجد لها أجوبة معقولة في إطار الدين السائد.
حميد زناز كاتب وصحافي جزائري مقيم في فرنسا. دَرس ودرّس الفلسفة في جامعة الجزائر. اهتمّ بالفلسفة الهامشية وبفكر إ. سيوران، الفيلسوف الروماني الأصل ومجدّد الشكّية في القرن العشرين، ونشر عنه بحثاً تحت عنوان "المعنى والغضب: مدخل إلى فلسفة سيوران".
