يكشف هذا الكتاب للمرّة الأولى عن التاريخ المكتوم للحركات السلفية والجهادية في لبنان وارتباطاتها في الخارج، ماضياً وحاضراً.
فالحرب التي جرت في مخيّم نهر البارد للاجئين الفلسطينيين في شمال لبنان بين الجيش اللبناني ومنظّمة فتح الإسلام، فتحت الباب على مصراعيه أمام أسئلة حاول الكاتب الإجابة عنها: من هم هؤلاء الجهاديون؟ من أين أتوا؟ ما الذي أتى بهم إلى لبنان؟ ماذا يريدون؟ وماذا بعد نهر البارد؟
يتوغّل الكاتب في كل الملابسات والخلفيّات والتورّطات التي سبقت وواكبت وتلت ما حدث فعلاً في نهر البارد. ويُدرج الأحداث في سياق طويل ومتداخل العناصر وبالغ التعقيد لتنامي الحركات الإسلامية السلفية والجهادية في لبنان، منذ أواسط القرن الماضي، مروراً بمرحلة الجهاد ضدّ الاحتلال الإسرائيلي وتعقيدات الوضع اللبناني الداخلي واغتيال الرئيس رفيق الحريري، وصولاً، وليس انتهاءً، إلى زمن القاعدة وارتداداته على الساحة اللبنانية.
