مضاوي بنت طلال بن محمد الرشيد ، أستاذة علم الإنثربولوجيا الديني، في قسم اللاهوت والدراسات الدينية بكلية الملوك بجامعة لندن.
وحفيدة آخر حاكم من أسرة الرشيد الحاكمة في حائل، (1830 - 1921) : (والدها طلال المحمد الطلال الرشيد).
وتعمل د.مضاوي الرشيد على النقاشات الدينية السياسية في المملكة العربية السعودية خاصة بعد أحداث ١١سبتمبر٢٠٠١.
حيث قامت بتأليف العديد من الكتب والمقالات في المجلات الأكاديمية عن شبه الجزيرة العربية والهجرة العربية و العولمة.
Book Description
هذا الكتاب دراسة في العلاقات بين القبائل وتكوين الدولة، وتاريخ سياسي هام لوسط الجزيرة العربية في الفترة التي سبقت قيام الدولة السعودية الحالية. وهو يتناول إمارة الرشيد التي ظهرت في القرن التاسع عشر بين رعاة الإبل الشمّر، وجعلت واحة حائل عاصمة تضاهي مكة والمدينة في الشهرة والازدهار، وحاولت أن توحّد وسط الجزيرة العربية في كيان واحد.
تنظر المؤلفة في الأسباب التي جعلت شمّر تصبح في هذه اللحظة على وجه التحديد قابلة للمركزية السياسية، والعوامل الداخلية والخارجية التي أسهمت في ظهور إمارتها، والتغيرات التي حدثت في النظام السياسي، والتطورات التي أدّت إلى ما حدث لاحقاً من عدم استقرار وسقوط كيان شمّر السياسي في القرن العشرين. وأخيراً، إذ يقيم الكتاب السياق التاريخي الدولي لنشوء الإمارة في حائل، فإنه يناقش أهمية السلطنة العثمانية وتنافسها مع بريطانيا في تحديد مجرى الأحداث على المستوى الإقليمي.
وبالاستناد إلى مادة أرشيفية وأدب الرحّالة ومقابلات غنية ما كانت لتعطى إلى غريب، تعيد مضاوي الرشيد بناء التاريخ الاجتماعي لإمارة أثارت انتباه مسؤولين رسميين غربيين ورحالة أوروبيين مثل والن وبالغريف ودوتي وبلنت.
