هذا الكتاب يفتح نوافذ جديدة على حياة بطل مصري عظيم كان له الدور الأكبر فى حرب أكتوبر هو الفريق سعد الشاذلى رئيس أركان حرب القوات المسلحة في أكتوبر 1973م. يتتبع المؤلف حياة الرجل منذ مولده فى قرية شبراتنا بمحافظة الغربية، مرورًا بدراسته فى الكلية الحربية، واختياره في الحرس الملكي، ثم مشاركته فى حرب فلسطين، وعلاقته بعبد الناصر، وحتى دوره العظيم فى حرب أكتوبر. كما يعرض الكتاب- مستعينًا بوثائق وشهادات ومذكرات- قصة الخلاف بين الشاذلى والسادات، ومرحلة عمله سفيرًا، ثم تأسيسه جبهة الصمود والرفض، ومحاكمته وسجنه فى واحدة من أظلم محاكمات الأبطال.
إنها لمحات من حياة عسكري أبيض قدم لمصر حياته، وظلمه الحكام والإعلام، ولكن آن أوان شمس الحقيقة أن تسطع بعد أن سطر المصريون أروع ثورة حرية.
