قاص وروائي مصري من مواليد الأقصر٬ مصر٬عام 1967. يعمل محررا لمجلة الثقافة الجديدة. فاز بالجائزة الأولى في مسابقة صحافية (أخبار الأدب) للقصة القصيرة٬ على مستوى الوطن العربي٬ عن قصة "عجلات عربة الكارو الأربعة". صدر له ثلاث مجموعات قصصية وروايتان: "الصنم" (1999) و"منافي الرب" (2013) وقد ترشحت منافى الرب لجائزة البوكر و ايضا صدرت له رواية "إنحراف حاد"

" هكذا، ورغم أحداث الهياج الدِّينيِّ على متن چو، وحَنجوريًة خطاب المثقَّف، وصليل خطبة الأُصولىِّ، ونحيب المسيحيين، وأنين المصلوب، وصيحات النوَّارس، وصخب الأمواج، وضجيج المحرِّك، استغرق زغلول البيضا في حُبِّ حسن المط! أو بالأحرى استغرق في حُبِّ بَهيِّة المط. يحيط كتفيها وذراعيْها بكامل ذراعيْه. يميل برأسه ناحية أذنها، ويهمس لها بما يعني أنَّ قلبه تَعرَّف عليها قبل عينْيه...وهمست له بما يعني أنَّها لم تكن تتصوَّر أنَّ سعادتها ستنبت في قلب مأساتها! ثم نظرت حولها فجأة وقالت مندهشة: الله! الدُّنيا مقلوبة حولنا!".
مجموعة من المهاجرين غير الشرعيين على ظهر قارب صغير يحكمه "الريس زبيبة"، يجدون فجأة أنفسهم منعزلين عن كل شيء ولا توجد وسيلة اتصال لهم مع العالم الخارجي قبل أن يكتشفوا وجود امرأة متنكرة بينهم، فكيف يمكن أن تتعايش مجموعة أشخاص مختلفي الطباع والأديان والانتماءات السياسية معًا على سطح مركب يسير وسط بحر متلاطم نحو مصير مجهول؟
"جو العظيم" رواية مليئة بالمجازات، لكنها في الوقت ذاته تجعل القارئ يتوحَّد مع مصائر الشخصيات المختلفة متسائلًا: لمن ستكون الغلبة في النهاية؟
