في الرواية شخصيات يصعب نسيانها؛ السيدة إيزتر الشريرة التي تهدف إلى الإستيلاء على مقاليد الأمور في المدينة، وزوجها الضعيف؛ وفالوسكا، بطلنا ذو الحظ العائر صاحب الرأس السابح بين الغيوم، المركز الهش المؤلم في الرواية كلها، الشخص النقي الوحيد ذو الروح النبيلة.
