عندما شرعت في إعداد خطة هذا الكتاب؛ كان السؤال الكبير الذي يشغلني هو عن علاقة النقد بالهوية، كيف تتأثر هوية الفرد والجماعة بالنقد، اكتشفت لاحقاً وأثناء العمل أن الهويّة لا تكون إلا ذاتية في النقد فلا يمكن الإمساك بهوية الأشياء بعيداً عن النقد؛ فهو الذي يقرها عدا سواها، وجدت نفسي تلقائياً أتحدث عن النقد كمحاولة لتعبير هوية شيء ما.
الفكرة الجوهرية للكتا تدور حول ثقافة السؤال، السؤال كإعتراض وبحث عن الحق، يبدأ الشعور بالوجود عن الأسئلة التي تسألها صغاراً، إذ لا تستطيع أن تعيش بدون أن تتحسس المعنى في أشياء العالم.
ومن الأسئلة يبدأ الصدام، أما في صورة خوف أو قلق أو جدل أو صراع أو نقد، وأدت الأفكار الأولى لهذا العمل من بعض أشكال الصدام داخل المجتمع، حيث باتت الحاجة ضرورية لإعادة النظر في مواقع السؤال داخل ذلك التوتر للزمن بين الفرد والجماعة، لا أضع لنفسي إطار عمل جاد في اختبار قضايا النقاش وطريقة معالجتها بالكتاب، إذ انطلق بشكل أساسي من ضرورة الإنكشاف على القارئ والصدق معه، وإشراكه في بناء المفاهيم التي تناولها.
فحرية القارئ مع المعالجات الواردة في الكتاب، وتحولها إلى محفزات لتحريك الهمم تناول مشاكل المجتمع وشؤونه بشكل يحفظ للمجتمع حقه في أن يستمر كمجتمع، هذه الحرية هي أقصى ما يسعى الكتاب لتحقيقها، هذا يتطلب أن يكون النقد أكثر تحرراً من القوالب والمناهج وقواعد الثقافة، وفي نفس الوقت يكون أكثر تواضعاً، لئلا يتمركز حول مغطي سابق ليس من صلب النقد نفسه، كاللغة مثلاً، أو الهوية، أو أي مشروع يحمل تنمية المعيارية: أن يكون معياراً لتصنيف الناس إلى منتمي ولا منتمي.
