إنها أحاديث هذا الرّجل المتّقدة عن ذكرياته في بحر الرّمال العظيم وصحاري مصر وليبيا، في كهف السبّاحين والجلف الكبير، عن البدو وواحاتهم وسحرهم، وحُبّه المحرّم، وغضْبَته الشّرسة - تلك الذّكريات تُشعل القصّة وتكشف عن غوامضَ تنتقل في موجات صادمة إلى أوالئك الهاربين من الحرب والموت حوله في المنزل، فتتغيّر حيواتهم إلى الأبد.
