تأخذنا رواية "النباتية" إلى عوالم فائضة الإنسانية وجامحة المشاعر حتى الاستهجان، وسط صراعات سطوة العائلة ورتابة المجتمع واستهلاك الذات في طاحونة يومياتنا ليستيقظ الجسد على انتفاضته القاطعة, ليونغ هي التي فجأة صحت من حلم رافضة أكل أي نوع من اللحوم واتخذت من النباتية مسارًا لتغذيتها، قبل أن يتكشف لنا رويدًا رويدًا أن للقرار فلسفته، والتي انجرّ إليها أيضا زوج شقيقتها الكبرى ليخوضا في علاقة حميمية حد التماهي بين جسدين دون أن ينطقا بكلمة واحدة، يتماهيان بمشهد جسدي واحد للوحة ملحمية تشكل حيزًا كبيرًا من فانتازيا الرواية، ويتداخلان في مشهد سريالي يرسمه ويوثقه زوج شقيقتها الرسام الذي ظهر فجأة كشخصية محورية من الرواية بعدما كان هامشيًا في فصولها الاولى.
سؤال عن مسببات الحياة ومبررات البقاء تطرحه الرواية بوحشية من خلال رفض بطلتها لأي وسيلة من وسائل إدخال الغذاء لجسدها، كأنها تقول لا شيء يستحق البقاء إلا بضعة ورود وأشجار قد تولد من أجسادنا إذا ما التصقنا بالأرض لنستمد قوتنا منها.
جرأة تتركنا امام استسهال الموت في سبيل الفكرة
وتهزأ بنا لاننا نواصل حياتنا بيوميات تبدو رتيبة اذا ما قيست بانتفاضة النباتية.
