أحب أن أروي هذه الحكاية لغرابتها. كنتُ والمخرجة براتيبا بارمر على متن طائرة تقلنا من تاميل إلى أكرا في غانا، غرب إفريقيا، ولم تكن من طائرة سواها، والبديل عنها قيادة السيارة لسبع ساعات على طريق وعرة سبق أن اختبرناها قبل عدة أيام حيث تكبدنا كل ما يخطر على البال من منغصات، وحين وصلنا مقصدنا كان الجوع والحر قد أعيانا وغطانا الغبار الأحمر. كانت طائرة نقل عسكرية قديمة، مطليّة باللونين البني والأخضر للتمويه. قالت براتيبا إنها أشبه بعلب الصّفيح. خلت الطائرة من المقاعد، وعثرنا على مكان مخصص لأمتعتنا وكاميرات براتيبا الكثيرة، وأحاط بنا المسافرون على متنها مع أطفالهم، ودجاجاتهم، وماشيتهم. كان الإحساس بأن قرية تحلق في الأجواء مبعث طمأنينة في الواقع. صعقنا مع إقلاع الطائرة اكتشاف أنها لا تحتوي على نوافذ، بل فتحات بلا زجاج أو بلاستيك، مؤطرة بالمطاط الذي يثبت عليه الزجاج عادة. سددنا الفتحات بأيدينا، ثم لاحظنا أنها تطير على ارتفاع منخفض، بضع مئة من الأقدام فوق قمم الأشجار. لم نتجرّأ على النّظر إلى مقدمة الطائرة لنحدد موقع الطيار، ونحن نسمع ضحكه ومزاحه مع شخص خلفه. أحسب أننا صلّينا. وحدقنا ببعضنا البعض حين تثاقلت الطائرة. قال أحد ممن كانوا معنا: حسناً، ها نحن نقوم بالرحلة الأخيرة، فرادى أو جماعات، فسأله آخر من دون تَردّد: ألا تستحق هذا العناء؟ بلى، أجابه، فنحن في شؤون تتعلق بالأم. إن وقفنا ستساندنا وإن سقطنا ستتلقفنا. ورأينا من حولنا يتبادلون التهاني والابتسامات ويتناقلون أشرطة الأفلام التي التقطتها براتيبا، واللوز، والموز، والفول السوداني. لقد كانت رحلة قصيرة.
