استمر اوستروفسكي يعمل في نص رواية " كيف سقينا الفولاذ " حتى الأيام الاخيرة من حياته ، وفي عام 1934 بدأ أوستروفسكي بمراجعة جديدة لرواية " كيف سقينا الفولاذ " ويكتب عدداً من المشاهد ، والصور ، والوقائع . وقد حصلت الرواية على تقييم رفيع من قبل الحكومة والرأي العام السوفييتي ، وأقرت اللجنة التنفيذية المركزية للاتحاد السوفيتي منح وسام لينين إلى الكاتب نيقولاي اوستروفسكي ، الذي استرك ببطولة في الحرب الأهلية وفقد صحته في الكفاح في سبيل السطلة السوفيتية ، وواصل بنكران ذات وبسلاح الكلمة الفنية نضاله في سبيل قضية الاشتراكية ، وهو مؤلف هذا العمل الموهوب " كيف سقينا الفولاذ " .
