في ذلك الوقت، عندما كنت لا أزال أتسلق الأشجار – وهذا منذ زمن بعيد، بعيد جداً، قبل سنوات وعقود كثيرة، حينها كان طولي لا يتجاوز المتر إلا قليلاً، وقياس قدمي ثمانية وعشرين، وكنت خفيفاً لدرجة أنه كان بوسعي الطيران – لا، هذا ليس كذباً، فقد كان بوسعي حقاً أن أطير آنذاك – أو تقريباً على الأقل، أو يُفضل أن أقول: يُحتمل حقاً أنه كان بإمكاني حينذاك أن أطير، لو أني عندها قد أردت ذلك فعلاً وبإصرار، ولو أني حاولت حقاً، إذ... إذ ما زلت أذكر تماماً، أني ذات مرة كنت على وشك أن أطير. كان ذلك في الخريف، في سنتي المدرسية الأولى. كنت عائداً من المدرسة إلى البيت وكانت تهب ريح بالغة الشدة، لحد أنه كان بمقدوري دون أن أفرد ذراعيَّ، أن أميل عليها، مثل القافزين من على منصة الثلج بل وأكثر، دون أن أقع... وعندما ركضت في وجه الريح عبرالمروج منحدراً على جبل المدرسة – إذ كانت المدرسة مبنية فوق جبل صغير خارج محيط القرية – وأنا أقفزعن الأرض قليلاً، فارداً ذراعي، رفعتني الريح، فصار بوسعي القفز دونما جهد لارتفاع مترين وثلاثة وأن أخطو مسافة عشرة أمتار بل اثني عشر متراً ـ ربما ليس بهذا الارتفاع ولا بهذا الطول، وما الفرق في ذلك –!.
