يحاول الكاتب أيمن توفيق في روايته بلورة مشروعه الإبداعي بتأنٍّ، متّخذاً من عوالم الريف المصري الذي عاش طفولته وصباه به، ومن ثم عوالم مدينة عمّان التي ارتحل إليها، منطلقاً لرسم ملامح بطله الورقي الذي دار السرد على لسانه بضمير الأنا.
تعاين هذه الرواية، عبر الانشطارات المتعددة للذات -زمانياً ومكانياً- وعبر صراعاتها الداخلية، مستوىً آخرَ من مستويات الوعي الإنساني الذي لم ينفكّ يبحث عن المدلولات الوجودية للعالم. تتأرجح عوالم الرواية بين مشاعر القهر واليأس من جهة، ومشاعر الأمل بالتغيير القادم من جهة أخرى، وبين الحب المنشود تارة، والحقد على الواقع المؤلم الذي يملي اشتراطاته الصعبة دون أن يترك للإنسان خياراً من أمره تارة أخرى.. لكن الإحساس المستمر الذي يلازم البطل في جميع محطات حياته هو الظلم الذي يتعرض له لا لشيء سوى أنه في لحظة معينة يقرر أن ينتصر لمبادئه ويعبّر عمّا يؤمن به من أفكار لا تروق لـ"الآخر"؛ الطرف الأقوى والأكثر نفوذاً وسلطةً، وبالتالي تحكُّماً.
