يثير عنوان هذا الكتاب الكثير من التساؤلات، ويضع القارئ أمام مواجهة حادة، وأمام طرفين أحدهما غالب والآخر مغلوب تشكّلا عبر الحياة والزمن، حتى اتخذا شكلًا في الحضور واللغة من الصعب تجاوزه. فهما «ضحية وجلاد» يقفان على مربع واحد وضمن بقعة جغرافية محددة، ومساحة وزمن واحد، محاط بكثير من الخوف والرهبة والمصير المجهول لكليهما.
يبحث الكتاب في العوامل التي دفعت لخلقهما معًا، وأجبرت كل منهما على مواجهة الآخر، الجلاد بقوته وجبروته، والضحية باستكانتها ورغبتها المضمرة المتأججة والقائمة على اقتناص لحظة المواجهة وانتظارها والتجهّز لها، والحقيقة، هناك سؤالٌ كبير حاولت هذه الجدلية البحث عن إجابة شافية أو مخرج له، بوضع كل منهما عند نقطة، للبحث عن مدى التشابك والتقاطع بينهما.
