الأحلام وسائل لا غنى لنا عنها، لأنها وسيلة لتبليغ المعلومات الحيوية من القسم الغريزي الفطري من الذهن البشري إلى قسمه العقلاني الواعي، ومن ثم فهي حضور للأمور الخافية في الوعي، وهي أيضا الوسيلة التي تكامل بها الخافية الواعية أو تعوضها وتوازنها، والرؤيا هي كل ما يراه الإنسان في منامه، فالحلم والرؤيا أمران ربما تتماثل معانيهما عند البعض، إلا أن المتفق عليه أن الرؤيا اسم للمحبوب من الأحلام، لذلك تضاف إلى الله سبحانه وتعالى، والحلم اسم للمكروه فيضاف إلى الشيطان لقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: الرؤيا من الله والحلم من الشيطان".
هكذا يرى الإنسان في نومه أمورا دائما يسعى وراء التعرف عليها بعد اليقظة، فالإنسان خلق في كبد وفي سعي دائم وراء البحث عن المجهول، وهذه الرؤى والأحلام مجهول يتفانى للتعرف عليه، ليفرح إن كان دالا على فرح وسعادة، ويحزن إذا كانت أحلامه في نظر المفسرين دليلا على شر سيقع به.
