لهذه الرواية قصة مثيرة وطويلة، تتجدَّد ضجتها في كل مرَّة تُنشَر فيها بأيٍّ من لغات العالم، وكل مرَّة تُصوَّر سينمائيًّا، وكل مرَّة تُرفَع دعوى من أجل منع تداولها. والأكيد أنها بقيت واحدة من أهم روايات القرن العشرين، وأكثرها تأثيرًا، منذ نُشرت لأول مرَّة في طبعة خاصة عام 1928.
قصة العلاقة الجسدية (والعاطفية) التي ربطت بين «الليدي تشاترلي» - وهي امرأة من الطبقة العليا وزوجة «السير تشاترلي» - ورجل من الطبقة العاملة، حكاها «لورانس» في ثلاث نسخ مختلفة، واتفق معظم النقاد على أن الصياغة الأولى لها هي الأفضل، عند نشرها لأول مرة عام 1944. وإننا إذ نقدِّم للقارئ هذه النسخة الأصلية من الرواية، فإننا نقدِّم ما أجمع النقاد على أنه قمة في الإبداع، وخلاصة فكر «لورانس» حول العلاقة بين العقل والجسد، وصراع الطبقات، والتحديث والطبيعة، فنتعرف من خلال هذه القراءة على واحد من أروع من صاغوا الكلمة فنًّا.
عن المؤلف
ديفيد هربرت لورانس (1885-1930) أحد أهم الأدباء البريطانيين في القرن العشرين. تعددت مجالات إبداعه من الروايات الطويلة إلى القصص القصيرة والمسرحيات والقصائد الشعرية والكتابات النقدية. من أشهر أعماله «عشيق الليدي تشاترلي».
عن المترجم
شغل أمين العيوطي منصب الأستاذ بقسم اللغة الانجليزية وآدابها بكلية الآداب جامعة القاهرة. ترجم عددًا من المسرحيات والروايات الإنجليزية والأمريكية المهمة لأمثال د هـ لورانس وتوني موريسون وتشارلز فريزر. أصدر رواية واحدة. توفي عام 2017.
