نشرت الرواية لأول مرة عام 1889، كي تحكي عن أظرف رحلة قارب جرت أحداثها على نهر التايمز بعدما قرر ثلاثة أصدقاء الفرار من حياة العمل الرتيبة والانقطاع عن كل ما لا ينتمي لمباهج الحياة، وفي سلسلة من المواقف المدهشة وصدامات الواقع وطرائفه وبعض من قصص التاريخ المحلي على طول الطريق يدرك هؤلاء الرجال حقيقة ما تحتاجه النفس في أحلك الأوقات ويتعرفون معًا على ماهية التفاصيل الصغيرة التي قد تشكل عالمًا كبيرًا إن التفتنا إليها !
