قال الإمام النووي رحمه الله: أجمع العلماء على استحباب تحسين الصوت بالقرآن، ما لم يخرج عن حد القراءة بالتمطيط ونحوه، فإن خرج حتى زاد حرفا أو أخفاه حرم، وأما القراءة بالألحان فقد كرهها بعضهم لما رأى فيها من خروج عن الخشوع والتدبر المطلوب في القرآن، وأجازها البعض الآخر بحجة أنها تكون سبيلا للرقة وحصول الخشية، وإقبال النفوس على الاستماع والإنصات، وفي ذلك يقول رسول الله "": زينوا القرآن بأصواتكم "رواه أصحاب السنن إلا الترمذي، وصححه الألباني، ومفاد قول النووي، أن قراءة القرآن بالألحان إذا انتهت إلى إخراج الألفاظ أو بعض منها عن مخارجها حرم ذلك، فإن لم تخرج بالألحان عن المنهج القويم جاز، مع الإشارة إلى أن المقصود بالألحان في كلام الفقهاء ليس الآلات الموسيقية المعروفة لدينا اليوم، بل مقصودهم اللحن الصوتي، وهو النغم الصوتي فحسب، إلا فالإجماع منعقد على تحريم قراءة القرآن بتلحين الموسيقى، وأن فاعله مستهزئ بكتاب الله تعالى، مستخف به.
وهذا الكتاب يتناول ابرز قراء القرآن الكريم في العصر الحديث واعذبهم صوتا وخشوعا .
