أردت من هذا الكتاب عند إعدادي له، العودة إلى أصول نظرة المسلمين إلى شعوب أوربا. وكاني دفعني إلى ذلك أن هذا الموضوع لم يتم تناوله من قبل بشكل شامل. ولعل الصعوبة ترجع إلى غياب أي ترسيمة تسمح بالتعقب المنهجي لنظرة المسلمين إلى أوروبا.
وقد سعيت إلى استعراض هذا التطور عبر حقب زمنية طويلة وصولاً إلى الزمن الحاضر، بحيث يمكن مراقبة التغير والاستمرار، ليس فقط في نظرة المسلمين إلى أوروبا، بل في علاقتهم معها أيضاً.
