"قد ذهب الظن بالقارئ للوهلة الأولى إلى أن الشاعر قد كتاب سيرته شعراً. ولكن عندما نقرأ القصائد نكتشف، ومن تنوع موضوعاتها وتواريخها، أن ما حوته هو سيرة القصائد وليس سيرة الشاعر. إذ إن هناك قصائد تعود لعام 1963 وأخرى لعام 2001 وهي موضوعة في الديوان وفق تسلسل لا يخضع إلى التعاقب الزمني.
..ورغم أنه غادر العراق منذ ثلاثين سنة أو أكثر إلا أن معظم القصائد كتبت فيه فكان سنوات اغترابه أبعدته عن الشعر أيضاً وليس عن نشره فقط.
قصائد كتبت في دمشق وأخرى في القاهرة أو الكويت أو بنغازي أو لندن أو البصرة أو بيروت ومدن أخرى وأغلبها أقام وعمل فيها وصولاً إلى إقامته في مدينة جدة.
إبراهيم الزبيدي أحد الشعراء الغنائيين القلائل الذين عرفهم الشعر العراقي في ستينياته وما قبلها، ولكن اسمه غائب عن الدراسات التي تتناول الشعر العراقي، والسبب هو في هذا التقطع الذي ارتضاه في النشر، بينما زملاؤه استمروا على النشر، وفقاً لهذه الغنائية، وصاروا صوتاً نكاد نسمعه عند أكثر من شاعر، رغم أنهم لا يكررون بعضهم، بل يؤكدون اختلافهم بما في ذلك مواقفهم السياسية والفكرية.
وغنائية الزبيدي مقصودة، لأنها تمثل قناعة شعرية، وليس من السهل على الشاعر أن يكون غنائياً صافي الصوت".
