الكتاب المطروح بين أيديكم ليس ذكريات أدبية، بل حديثي الأخير مع ناظم، بدأ الحديث بعد مرور أسبوعين أو ثلاثة على رحيله، لأن، صدقوني، التواصل بين الناس المقربين أحدهم من الآخر، أمر لا يمكن لأي شيء أن يحول دونه.
على مدى عامين، من 1963 إلى 1965، ليلة إثر ليلة، تواصل هذا الحديث بسلاسة، النتيجة: ألف صفحة، وناظم، كما عرفته، وهذا هو الأهم الآن.
بالطبع، لا توجد هنا ألف صفحة، بل النصف، وإلا زاد الأمر عن حدّه، حذفت القصص المتعلقة بتاريخ علاقتنا، وكذلك العديد من لحظات الحياة الحميمة، لم أضمّن الكتاب تفاصيل إشتغال ناظم على أشعاره، مسرحياته، سيناريوهاته، رواياته، والتي كنت شاهدة عليها.
كما تجاهلت بعض الأمور لإعتبارات إنسانية تتعلق بالأشخاص الذين لا يزالون أحياء، والذين، على الأغلب، يشعرون بالندم لما سببوه لناظم من أحزان. - فيرا
عرفت بسرعة أن فيرا كانت زوجة ناظم حكمت، في ذلك الوقت لم أكن قد قرأت شيئاً من كتب ناظم حكمت، وكانت الصفة الملازمة له "الشاعر الشيوعي" تُجفلني، أُضيف أنني بدأت قراءة ناظم حكمت بمتعة وانبهار، فقط بعد فترة طويلة من تخرجي من معهد السينما.
أتذكر الآن بإستغراب: لم تسأل فيرا أبداً أيا منا إن كان قرأ ناظم حكمت، ولم تلح علينا أبداً لكي تقرأه، عموماً، نادراً ما كانت فيرا تتحدث عنه -) في شقتها، بوجود صوره، كان من الغريب ألا يتطرق الحديث إليه (- كان الحديث يفتقر إلى الحماس العاطفي، وحتى الحزن: كانت فيرا تستذكر يفرح فقط الأشياء المرحة وحتى المزاح، مثلاً، عندما رفضت سفينة الشحن الرومانية، حسب الإتفاق مع ستالين، السماح بصعود ناظم حكمت الهارب من تركيا على متنها، وهو ما كان سينتهي بمقتله، حادثة كانت ترويها فيرا مصحوبة بضحكتها الدائمة.
