كاتب عراقي وفنان تشكيلي.
ولد سنة 1939 بالناصرية جنوب العراق.(( مقيم في تونس)) درس الرسم وتخرج من معهد الفنون الجميلة وكلية الفنون الجميلة.
ببغداد.
بدأ النشر في الصحف العراقية والعربية، أصدر أول مجموعة له (السيف والسفينة) عام 1966م، وأشرف على تحرير الصفحة الثقافية في جريدة الأنبار الجديدة، والفجر الجديد.
عمل مديراً للمركز الثقافي العراقي في كل من بيروت وتونس.
عضو هيئة تحرير مجلة "الحياة الثقافية" التي تصدرها وزارة الثقافة التونسية.
من مؤلفاته -السيف والسفينة- قصص- بغداد 1966.

بين دفتي هذا الكتاب نخبة من مخنارات قصصية ، للقاص والروائي العراقي عبد الرحمن مجيد الربيعي ، فقد استطاع بسرده النفاذ إلى أعماق الذات الانسانية في مواطن قوتها وضعفها ، وجبرونها وعجزها . فغاص في أعماق الانسان معبرا عن دخائل النفس وأحاسيسها المركبة والمتناقضة، كاشفا عن أسرار تركيبها وتبدلات مواقفها ، كأنه يقبض على سر الأسرار أو جوهره، ولكنه يخذل جميع الحراس والكهان، عندما لا يخجل من إعلان فاجعة أسراره، رغم مآسي السقوط والتصدعوالانهيار، وليحتفظ لنفسه بحميمية في نفوس وقلوب القراء. قد لا يعرف القارئ سرها وأيضا لم يبال الربيعي بالسؤال كيف حدث هذا؟!
